Powerful 2017 Acura RLX Sport Hybrid Reaches Dealerships This Week

This week, Honda Motor’s premium Acura brand’s most energetic and advanced 2017 Acura RLX Sport Hybrid midsize sedan begins to reach U.S. dealerships. The new luxury sport car, which features a 3-motor hybrid powertrain that produces a combined 377 horsepower, will have a suggested sticker price of $59,950. Including a special Advanced package with extra comfort, convenience, and performance features, the new RLX Sport Hybrid will list for $65,950.

The 5-passenger RLX Sport Hybrid features Acura’s new all-wheel-drive (AWD) system that is used in the new Acura NSX supercar. A robust 3.5-liter V-6 engine that makes 310 horsepower is matched with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission with built-in motor powering the front wheels and two electric motors propelling the rear wheels. Altogether, the powertrain generates the equivalent of 377 horsepower.

Acura officials say this 2017 RLX Sport Hybrid provides the performance of a V-8 with the fuel efficiency of a 4-cylinder engine to achieve an EPA-estimated 29 mpg city and 30 mpg highway. Variable-cylinder management technology in the RLX Sport Hybrid provides a broad torque band, Acura says, augmented by the instant torque of the three electric motors. Automatic idle-stop further increases fuel economy along with the motors.

In addition, the new RLX Sport Hybrid features a range of advanced technologies, including LED headlight systems, the AcuraLink connected infotainment system, and adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow technology. A host of driver-assistance and safety technologies also are included, such as collision-mitigation braking, forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and cross-traffic monitor. These systems plus firmer body structure and 7 air bags help the RLX Sport Hybrid achieve a “Top Safety Pick” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
