Power Profile: Chevrolet Cruze

There are two versions of the Chevrolet Cruze for sale in 2016. The first is the old Cruze, now called the Cruze Limited, which sounds much fancier than it really is. The second is the new Cruze, a completely redesigned car, which arrived late enough in the year that it really could have been introduced as a 2017 model.

With the new Cruze, Chevrolet aims to improve fuel economy and driving dynamics while enlarging the car’s interior, upgrading its infotainment systems, and improving its driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technologies. Perhaps these changes can help the car to rank higher in the J.D. Power U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study.SM In 2015, the Cruze ranked 14th among 19 entries in the Compact Car segment.

If you’ve ever wondered who buys this compact sedan, and what owners like most about them, this Chevrolet Cruze Power Profile will provide some insights.

Who Buys the Chevrolet Cruze?
Fewer men buy the Chevy Cruze, compared with the segment average (52% vs. 56%). Cruze buyers are also slightly older, at a median age of 51 years, compared with 49 for the segment. When it comes to median household income, Cruze buyers are less affluent at $58,226, compared with $72,719 for the segment.

One significant reason that Cruze buyers choose this small Chevrolet is because it is built by a U.S. company. Compared with 40% of Compact Car buyers in general, 87% of Cruze buyers agree that they prefer to buy a vehicle from a U.S. company.

According to Cruze buyers, 59% agree that their friends and family think of them as someone who knows a great deal about autos, compared with 54% for the segment. Additionally, 52% of Cruze buyers agree that they are willing to pay more for a vehicle that is environmentally friendly, compared with 59% of Compact Car owners.

In all other respects, the sentiments of Cruze buyers align closely with those of Compact Car owners.

What Do Owners Most Like about the Cruze?
Based on the results of the 2015 U.S. APEAL Study, and according to the people who own one, the five most appealing attributes of the Chevrolet Cruze are (in descending order) exterior styling, driving dynamics, interior design, visibility and safety, and the infotainment system.
