Yahoo Finance The Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport 25 Is a Track-Only Tribute to Manthey Racing
Porsche announced today it will be producing a limited run of 30 track-only twin-turbo 911s based on the 991-generation GT2 RS Clubsport. Dubbed the 911 GT2 RS Clubsport 25, the car is being released to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Manthey Racing GmbH, the racing firm responsible for running Porsche's 911 RSR factory team in the World Endurance Championship.
Porsche says inspiration for the GT2 RS Clubsport 25 came from Manthey Racing's 911 GT3 R, which it used to win the Nürburgring 24 Hours this year. Though it shares much of the GT2 RS Clubsport's general shape, extensive changes have been made to the Clubsport 25's body to make it stand out while also improving performance. There's a completely new front apron that contains a centrally mounted radiator design, eliminating the need for radiators to be positioned in the front corners of the bumper where they could be easily damaged. In those corners now sit tunnels that direct air to the front brakes for better cooling. The carbon front hood piece has also been redesigned to channel more air over the car, while a single centralized NACA duct funnels fresh air to the cabin.
Out back, you'll find an entirely new body design that wraps around the rear end, similar to the reborn Porsche 935 track car which, coincidentally, is also based on the 991-generation 911 GT2 RS Clubsport. It's paired to a new wing that gets a swan-neck support brackets and new side plates. According to Porsche, the 700-hp 3.8-liter flat-six, seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission, suspension, 18-inch wheels, steering setup, and electronics are also borrowed from the modern 935.
“With the 911 GT2 RS Clubsport 25 special edition, which we designed and developed in conjunction with Porsche Motorsport, we’ve reached another milestone in the 25-year history of Manthey," Nicolas Raeder, Managing Director of Manthey-Racing GmbH, said in a statement. "It’s a perfect example of our guiding principle ‘Closer to Perfection.’ With every modification, technological function always takes priority. That’s why the 911 GT2 RS Clubsport 25 has its very own character, which also reflects our brand values: straightforward and meticulous, flexible and uncompromising.”
The 911 GT2 RS Clubsport 25 will start from 525,000 Euros (roughly $621,000 at current exchange rates) plus taxes, with deliveries starting in January 2022.
