The Pininfarina B95 Is a $4.8 Million, 1-of-10 Electric Speedster

Electric cars do not get much more extreme than this. The Pininfarina Battista was already expensive, rare, and oh so fast, so it only makes sense that the newly announced B95--the second application of that car's outrageous 1800-plus horsepower, quad-motor powertrain--adds another layer of thrill.

The Pininfarina B95 is a speedster, or, in Italian automotive parlance, a barchetta. For 10 lucky customers, that means the overwhelming power that forms the foundation of the Battista is now available without the hindrance of a windscreen. The B95 is not a one-off, but it is a 10-off; the car's rarity is "guaranteed" with limited production and a starting price of just under $4.8 million.

Even among speedsters, the B95's design stands out. On the example revealed today, big splashes of yellow accent both the nose and the roll hoop to make something like a modernized version of the sort of simple liveries used on open-cockpit racing cars in the 1950s.

That design inspiration continues in the interior, where tan leather covers just about everything below the belt line. Above it, the top third of the driver and passenger seats are upholstered in a unique houndstooth pattern.

Automobili Pininfarina is a distinct company from the Pininfarina design studio, as the automotive brand is owned wholly by Indian automaker Mahindra, which is also the design studio majority owner. It calls the Battista a "hyper GT." The B95 is certainly not as well-suited for grand touring, but it still packs the Battista's exceptional usability as an every-day EV thanks to a liquid-cooled 120 kWh battery that can charge at 270 kW and go from 20% to 80% capacity in just 25 minutes. The Battista has an EPA range estimate of 300 miles, so expect the B95 to fall in a similar range.

The B95 is named for the Pininfarina for the 95th anniversary of the Pininfarina design house, which notably only celebrated its 93rd anniversary in May. Both manufacturing and delivery of the 10 B95 are scheduled for 2025, meaning these cars will arrive on the anniversary they were named to celebrate.
