Piers Morgan has hit out at the I’m A Celebrity campers, saying he “can’t stomach” the way they try to “people please”.

The Good Morning Britain presenter said when he tuned into the latest series of the ITV reality show he caught the contestants having an emotional chat.

But instead of being moved by the moment, the presenter was irritated by the “nicey nicey” behaviour.

“I really can’t stomach it,” he said on the breakfast show.

“I know these people and none of them bear any relation to these sycophantic goons all sitting there going, ‘Oh you are so special, no you are more special’,” he went on.

"Shut up, get on with it!”

Morgan said he would prefer this year’s contestants – who include Shane Richie, Beverley Callard and Giovanna Fletcher – to “be themselves rather than trying to people please”.

“This is like watching virtue signalling Twitter come on to my screen,” he fumed.

“You know these people I know, I won't name them... yet, but these are famous people I know who are in real life utterly awful human beings.

“And yet on Twitter every day they are out there giving it the big virtue signalling.”

This year’s I’m A Celebrity stars have included EastEnders actor Richie, author Fletcher, presenter Vernon Kay, radio DJ Jordan North, soap stars Callard and Jessica Plummer and Olympian Mo Farah.

Journalist Victoria Derbyshire, singer Russell Watson, Paralympian Hollie Arnold, West End star Ruthie Henshall and former Strictly dancer AJ Pritchard completed the line-up.

The finale takes place on Friday, with only Richie, Kay, Fletcher and North remaining in the competition.
