Peter Gallagher Officially Lists in Brentwood (EXCLUSIVE)

SELLER: Peter Gallagher
LOCATON: Los Angeles, CA
PRICE: $5,995,000
SIZE: 5,225 square feet, 6 bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: The Los Angeles residence of veteran stage and screen actor Peter Gallagher, initially available on the down low, officially popped up on the open market at $5.995 million. Property records reveal Mister Gallagher, who trod the boards last year with Kristin Chenoweth in the short-lived Broadway revival of “On the Twentieth Century” and whose long list of boob-toob credits include “The O.C.” and, currently, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” purchased the property with his wife of 30-some years, Paula Harwood, in March 2007 for exactly $3 million. The L-shaped residence, securely behind gates in the quietly upscale Brentwood area and all but entirely obscured behind dense foliage and towering trees, has a total of six bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms in 5,225-square-feet, according to online marketing materials.

Ample and comfortably furnished “formal” living and dining rooms open off an exceptionally long, bowling alley-like entrance hall with narrow-gauge honey blond hardwoods that run throughout the entire first floor of the two-story residence. The fireplace in the living room sits back to back with a second fireplace in an adjacent bedroom and the kitchen, which also opens off the entrance gallery, has run-of-the-mill black granite counter tops on simple white cabinetry, a mixy-matchy mélange of white and stainless steel appliances, and a desirably deep, shelf-lined walk-in pantry. A long, counter top peninsula divides the kitchen from an airy family/dining room with high ceilings, wood-framed glass doors that lead out to a tree-shaded terrace, and — at least as far as this property gossip is concerned — a decoratively dated and unnecessary chuck of glass block set in to the back wall. The half of a dozen bedrooms are spread throughout the house and include a main floor master suite composed of a semi-private den, bedroom-sized dressing room and equally proportioned bathroom, and roomy bedroom that opens through glass doors on one wall to terraced courtyard and swimming pool and on the opposite wall to the backyard. The second floor, accessible by an open tread staircase just inside the front door, can be used as a generous and self-contained if not completely separate guest accommodation with full kitchen that’s open to media lounge with sky-lit vaulted ceiling and a full wall of built-ins plus a narrow balcony, two bedrooms, and a shared hall bath.

The property’s lushly exuberant landscaping was executed, according to listing details, by deservedly lauded L.A.-based landscape architect Jay Griffith and includes a multi-level courtyard with several interconnected and mostly shady terraces along with a saltwater swimming pool set on a lower patio behind one of the better integrated and, hence, least objectionable child safety fences this property gossip has ever seen. The lounge terrace off the kitchen/family room wraps around the rear of the house to an elevated and sycamore shaded dining terrace along with a sun-dappled patch of grass and graveled patio just outside the master bedroom.

A quick spin through various property record databases indicates the Gallagher-Harwoods have maintained a converted 19th-century barn residence scenically situated along a country lane on 20-ish rural acres near New Milford, CT, since April 2004 when they bought it for $420,000.
