With her fixer-upper penthouse on the Upper West Side of Manhattan having failed to entice a serious buyer after 10 long months on the market with a much-too-bullish asking price of almost $5.5 million, Penny Marshall has switched real estate agents and slashed the asking price to just below $4 million. The seventysomething, Bronx-born showbiz veteran acquired the approximately 1,800-square-foot penthouse some time in the early 1980s for an unknown amount.
The two-bedroom, two-bath aerie, in need of a comprehensive spruce up, sits atop a full-service prewar building and opens from a semi-private elevator landing to a spacious foyer accentuated by a stained-glass transom window. Property records reveal the “Laverne and Shirley” star turned movie director (“Big,” “A League of Their Own”) and film producer (“Bewitched,” “Cinderella Man”), who’s rarely seen without a signature pair of tiny, pastel-lensed sunglasses perched at the end of her nose, has relocated to Los Angeles, where she owns a nearly 9,600-square-foot Mediterranean mansion behind gates on almost 1.5 acres in the Outpost Estates neighborhood in the foothills above Hollywood.
