A prestigious cello player is missing after failing to appear at a concert, with concerned friends saying her phone has been switched off.

Penka Petkova, 26, has been missing for a week after last being seen at her east London flat on Monday September 20.

Friends, who reported her missing to police after she failed to appear at a concert on Tuesday, described her as petite, brunette and speaking with an eastern European accent.

Petkova is a tutor at Islington Media and Arts College after graduating from Guildhall School of Music and Drama on a scholarship.

In 2011 and 2012 she was awarded an honorary diploma for artistic achievement by the minister of culture for her native Bulgaria and appeared as a soloist for Classic FM’s Radio Orchestra.

Friends say she was last seen in a black leather jacket and with her hair in a ponytail.

Conductor Thomas Blunt shared a desperate appeal on Twitter: “Penka is a talented cellist who studied at the Guildhall School and has been missing since September 20.

“She was supposed to play at a concert on Tuesday and didn’t show up.”

A tweet has asked members of the public to call police and quote CAD 8265/24Sept21 if they have any information.
