A cellist who had been missing for a week has been found by police, six days after failing to turn up to a concert.

Penka Petkova, 26, was last spotted at her flat in Tower Hamlets, on September 20 and had not make contact with friends or family who said her phone was switched off.

A Met Police spokesman thanked the public for their help in the search, tweeting: “Thanks to those of you who shared our appeal for information about Penka Petkova who had been reported missing. We are pleased to let you know she has been found safe and well.”

Petkova is a tutor at Islington Media and Arts College after graduating from Guildhall School of Music and Drama on a scholarship.

In 2011 and 2012 she was awarded an honorary diploma for artistic achievement by the minister of culture for her native Bulgaria and appeared as a soloist for Classic FM’s Radio Orchestra.

Friends had reported the musician, who is originally from Sofia in Bulgaria, missing to the Metropolitan Police after she did not attend a concert on September 21.

Matt Geer a composer, shared his relief on Twitter, writing: “Penka Petkova has been found and taken to hospital. Thank you so much for all of the information and support everyone has given. It’s meant a lot!”
