Parks Canada reveals Gros Morne mobile information centre

You don't need to travel to Gros Morne to find the park's newest visitor centre.

The Gros Morne National Park mobile visitor information centre is a new service that aims to bring information about Gros Morne directly to tourists.

The mobile centre was spotted in St. John's over the weekend before it heads across the island to Gros Morne.

Kim Thompson, a promotions officer with Parks Canada Western Newfoundland and Labrador, is hoping the new project will encourage people to visit Gros Morne.

"The May 24 weekend, it's planting the idea for people if not for this weekend, maybe for their holidays for the summer to come over to the west coast and visit Gros Morne National Park," said Thompson.

When not touring, the van will be in the park, serving visitors directly.

The mobile centre will act as a traditional interpretation centre, offering information about the park. Entry passes and merchandise will be available for purchase.

The van, which had its fresh decals added Friday morning, is decorated with images of iconic scenes from Gros Morne, including the Lobster Cove Head lighthouse and the Tablelands.

"It's a really new, on-the-go thing that we're having this year," said Thompson.
