Oscar Isaac’s Production Company to Release ‘The Letter Room’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Oscar Isaac and Elvira Lind’s first film under Mad Gene Banner, the Academy Award-shortlisted short film “The Letter Room,” has set a North American premiere with First Look Media’s streaming service Topic worldwide distribution to be led by Salaud Morisset. The short will debut exclusively on Topic March 11.

“The Letter Room,” directed by Lind, who previously helmed several award-winning documentaries, stars Isaac and Alia Shawkat, and is the first project under Lind and Isaac’s new multimedia production company Mad Gene. It’s a dark prison comedy about the secret life of a correctional officer who gets transferred to a job in the letter room, where a new world suddenly opens to him.

“I was eager to tell a story about prison life that, instead of the suspense and drama we often see, explores one of the daily tasks, the letter censuring that further robs people who live here of their dignity and privacy,” Lind said. “By explaining the importance of these letters and how we fail to respect the humanity of people who are incarcerated I believe we tell a bigger story of what is wrong with the prison system”

“The Letter Room” screened at Telluride, Palm Springs International, ShortFest, Hollyshorts Film Festival and had its world premiere at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival. It was produced by Dutch Tilt Films’ Sofia Sondervan-Bild (“Cadillac Records”), executive produced by Inspire Entertainment’s Jason Spire, Lind, Isaac and Topic’s Ryan Chanatry and Gena Konstantinakos.

“The Letter Room explores a side of the prison system that few have considered in a uniquely heartfelt and thought-provoking way.” Chanatry, general manager of Topic, said. “Elvira Lind’s truly powerful film fits right at home at Topic, where we pride ourselves on entertaining our viewers while challenging their perspectives on the world.”

François Morisset, founder and managing director at the Paris and Berlin-based Salaud Morisset is spearheading the Academy Awards campaign for “The Letter Room.”

“We are thrilled to partner with Topic to distribute Elvira Lind’s fiction debut,” Morisset said. “The Letter Room is a hopeful story about our need for connection and love that couldn’t be more relevant right now. With its stellar cast and incredible storytelling, I’m convinced it will touch the hearts of a wide audience, people who crave positive stories that reflect our common humanity.”
