One Final Edition for the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution
Mitsubishi has announced that it will pay homage one last time to its sometimes “fast and furious” Lancer Evolution by building 1,600 Final Edition Evo compact sporty cars. The 2015 Lancer Evolution Final Edition, which could be set up for drifting, will be the most powerful of all Evo variants and will sell for an MSRP of just under $38,000.
The 4-door Evolution, which is in its 10th generation and its third since arriving in the U.S. market more than 12 years ago, is based on the current Lancer GSR trim level. The Final Edition will be powered by a turbocharged, 16-valve, 4-cylinder 2.0-liter engine that generates 303 horsepower (12 more than the standard Evo) and 305 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine is mated with a 5-speed manual transmission. Even with the extra horses, the Evo is rated by the EPA at 17 mpg city/23 mpg highway.
Performance is key to the Lancer Evo Final Edition. Enhancements include Brembo brake rotors in front, Bilstein shock absorbers, and Eibach springs. Mitsubishi’s all-wheel-drive (AWD) system is standard.
The Final Edition exterior treatment includes special-edition badging in the rear, black-painted aluminum roof, dark chrome Enkei alloy wheels, gloss black bumper and hood outlet, in addition to a dark chrome front grille surround. The 2015 Evolution Final Edition also will be available in four exterior paint colors: new Pearl White, Rally Red, Mercury Gray, and Octane Blue.
The interior will feature a plaque with each vehicle’s unique production number on the center console. Black headliner, pillars, sun visors, and assist handles are featured inside the car. Red accent stitching trims the sport seats, steering wheel, shift knob, console lid, floor mats, and parking brake handle.
Safety is integral to the Evo, which has been a centerpiece of rally sport racing. Seven air bags, a Sport ABS system, active stability and traction control, and a tire-pressure monitoring system are standard.
A refreshed Lancer hits the streets for 2016, and so far, Mitsubishi has not announced any plans for an 11th-generation Evo. This may be the last chance for Fast and Furious movie franchise enthusiasts to own the car that has become a symbol of the drifting scene.
