No Doubt Bassist Tony Kanal Flips Bungalow in Los Feliz Area of Los Angeles

SELLER: Tony Kanal
LOCATION: Los Angeles, CA
PRICE: $1,198,000
SIZE: 1,504 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Tony Kanal, the London-born and Anaheim-bred bassist for rock band No Doubt, is flipping a petite and unassuming if not exactly inexpensive bungalow in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles that was acquired just over a year ago via trust, according to property records, for exactly $1 million and flipped back on the market a little more than a month ago with an asking price of $1.198 million. Online listings show the 1,504-square-foot house is currently in escrow to be sold for an unknown amount to unknown buyer.

The front garden is fenced for privacy and landscaped with an eye towards drought tolerance and the house itself, a classic 1920s California bungalow with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, has been fully updated per listing descriptions with “new systems” and “is “wired for surround sound.” The front door opens less than elegantly directly into a stylishly staged combination living/dining room with sleek, tile-faced fireplace, medium brown hardwood floors and contemporary art friendly white walls. The living/dining room flows right on in to the all-white galley kitchen that’s fitted with solid surface countertops on lacquered cabinetry and perfectly serviceable medium quality stainless steel appliances. The back-end of the kitchen steps up to a cozily proportioned den/media lounge with wood-framed glass doors to the backyard. Two guest/family bedroom share a hall bathroom while the master bedroom, privately positioned at the back of the house, offers an en suite bathroom with soaking tub and separate glass-fronted shower along with a fitted walk-in closet and French doors to the backyard.

It seems highly unlikely Mister Kanal ever lived in the small bungalow as he’s owned a much larger and luxurious 1920s Spanish-style home in the hills of Los Feliz that he bought in late 2005 for $2.725 million from late actor Heath Ledger. Reports from the time of the purchase show the 4,905-square-foot, five-bedroom residence was designed by prominent Los Angeles architect Stiles O. Clements and features a courtyard with fireplace and vintage tile accent and a trellis-shaded dining terrace that overlooks a lap lane swimming pool and spa.

Coincidentally enough, just this week Mister Kanal’s bandmate and ex-girlfriend, Gwen Stefani — now divorced from Bush singer Gavin Rossdale and coupled with country music star Blake Shelton, officially made her lavish and eccentrically decorated estate in the mountains between Beverly Hills and Studio City available for purchase outside the Multiple Listing Service with a noteworthy $35 million price tag.
