Nissan's Redesigned 2017 Titan Half-Ton Pickup to Reach Showrooms this Summer

Nissan chose the 2016 Chicago Auto Show to show off photos of its redesigned Titan “standard” large pickup truck that will arrive at dealerships this summer. The standard Titan hasn’t had a major update since 2004. Riding on a separate chassis from its larger sibling Titan XD, the half-ton truck gets a new bold look and will be powered by a new 5.6-liter V-8 engine.

The light-duty 2017 Titan shares the rugged exterior appearance of its larger Titan XD sibling, which debuted late in 2015. However, Nissan’s redone Titan, which will be built at the automaker’s plant in Canton, MS, rides on a completely different chassis from the XD and “doesn’t even share lug nuts” with the larger truck, according to a Nissan statement. It’s 14.7 inches shorter than the XD and 1.5 inches lower, but the same width as its heavyweight XD sibling.

The redesigned Nissan Titan large pickup will be available in 4x2 or 4x4 configurations with three cab choices—crew cab, king cab, or single cab. Three bed lengths will be offered: 5.5 ft.; 6.5 ft.; and 8 ft., and the new half-ton truck will be available in five trim levels—S, SV, PRO-4X, SL, and Platinum Reserve—similar to its larger sibling.

The truck’s powertrain features a 5.6-liter V-8 engine that produces 390 horsepower and 401 lb.-ft. of torque when mated with a 7-speed automatic transmission. A smaller, V-6 gasoline engine will be available in the future, according to Nissan.
