NFL bettors dragged bet365 for trying to change Jordan Mason prop odds after bets were placed

NFL bettors were stressed enough scrambling to adjust after the San Francisco 49ers' late scratch of Christian McCaffrey for Monday night's game. The last thing they needed was for their sportsbook to tamper with their new bets on McCaffrey's backup, Jordan Mason.

Unsympathetic to their plight, though, bet365 did just that to some customers before reversing course and apologizing.

The UK-based sportsbook apparently adjusted the odds on Mason's rushing yards prop after several bettors had already placed wagers at shorter odds. Based on a screenshot posted to Reddit, bet365 sent a message saying the bet placed on -110 odds for Mason to go over 13.5 yards "was placed at incorrect odds and as such, in accordance with our rules, will be settled at the revised odds of -5000."

Any who has ever placed a bet knows there's a massive difference between -110 and -5000 odds. That's the difference between winning $90 and winning $2 on a $100 bet.

It's unclear whether these bets were placed before or after it was announced McCaffrey would be out. But whether or not bet365 fell asleep at the wheel isn't the concern of bettors. The price they found on the bet is the only price they should have paid, and bet365's attempt to change it after the fact was completely unethical.

The audacity is also surprising considering the company was ordered in July to pay more than $500,000 to customers in New Jersey for this very thing. Social media users called the sportsbook to task for the latest incident, which seemed to be the impetus for bet365 deciding to apologize "for any confusion" and settle all bets at their original odds.
