New 'Batwoman' pics reveal Javicia Leslie's brand new Batsuit

Watch: Batwoman - first look

The new Batwoman has a new Batsuit, and here is the first look at how Javicia Leslie is shaping up as Gotham City's newest crime fighter.

Leslie will make her debut in season two of The CW's Batwoman, part of the US network's cult Arrowverse shows.

She picks up the role after Australian actress Ruby Rose quit earlier this year, just days after the finale of the first season of the show had aired.

Where Rose played heiress Kate Kane – cousin of Bruce Wayne – in the series, the first openly gay superhero in DC's history, Leslie will play Ryan Wilder, a new character who will pick up the mantle of Batwoman.

According to The CW, Wilder is 'very much not your stereotypical All-American hero', though how she will be stitched into the fabric of the series is not yet known.

What we do know is that it will not be until episode three in the new series that we will see Wilder in her Batsuit, meaning there will likely be some essential character building going on before she becomes Batwoman.

However, we've got a fair while to wait until Leslie hits our screens.

Production was curtailed in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, and only resumed again in September, with the season shoot due to conclude in May next year.

Rose has praised the recasting of the role, posting to Instagram when the announcement was made over the summer: “OMG!! This is amazing!! I am so glad Batwoman will be played by an amazing Black woman. I want to congratulate Javicia Leslie on taking over the bat cape. You are walking into an amazing cast and crew. I can’t wait to watch season 2 you are going to be amazing!!”

Leslie is best known for roles in the shows God Friended Me and The Family Business.
