Nevada running back Akeel Lynch announced he’s retiring from football after sustaining what he described as “two significant concussions” in a “short period of time.”

Lynch, who played four seasons at Penn State before leaving for a graduate transfer to Nevada, made the decision in conjunction with his family and physicians, and announced the decision on Twitter.

Lynch played in four of Nevada’s seven games this season, but missed the last two games because of his most recent concussion. He finishes the season with eight carries for 29 yards.

Lynch graduated from Penn State and left the school in January to pursue more playing time and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership at Nevada.

Lynch played three seasons at Penn State, amassing 1,318 yards. However, he lost his starting role to freshman Saquon Barkley in 2015.
