Netflix Announces 'You' Season 4 Is Back In Production With The Creepiest Photo

Netflix Announces 'You' Season 4 Is Back In Production With The Creepiest Photo

*Warning: This article contains spoilers*

Netflix has been seriously spoiling us lately. Hot on the heels of global hit Squid Game in 2021, the streaming giant announced it's treating us to a fourth season of You, starring Penn Badgley as the ridiculously hot yet terrifying serial killer, Joe Goldberg.

News of You season four came just days before the third season's release date, so you can imagine how excited we are to find out that more episodes are on the horizon.

Here's everything you need to know about You season four (and yes, we're planning a binge-watching marathon too).

When will You season four be released?

Unfortunately, it's way too early to say: all we have from Netflix so far is a tweet that reads: 'See you soon'.

In March 2022 Netflix shared an Instagram picture of a clapperboard splattered in fake blook on the @younetflix Instagram account to announce that season four was in production.

'Feeling YOU-4-ic. YOU Season 4 is now in production, [sic]' the post's caption read.

Season three landed on October 15 - which means there's plenty of creepy content to keep you occupied.

Badgley celebrated his 35th birthday on November 1 and unsurprisingly received a birthday cake which paid tribute to his You character.

The actor's wife Domino Kirke-Badgley took to Instagram Stories to show off the tart, shaped like the number '35' and covered in fruit, gold flakes, flowers and French macarons, which she presented her husband on his big day. Edible photos of Badgley's You character from the show also topped the gigantic cake.

'I love eating my husbands face,' Kirke-Badgley captioned a video, played to the TV show's theme song, of the cake on Instagram. 'Happy Birthday Penn,' a message at the bottom of the cake read.

Who makes up the You season four cast?

Gossip Girl actor and star of You Badgley will of course be back as Joe, the lonely bookshop manager who stalks women and (spoiler alert) usually ends up murdering them.

However, an unlikely appearance might come in the form of Cardi B.

Fans of the TV show and the pair will know all too well that they've formed an unlikely friendship since season three of You dropped in October, with Cardi B suggesting she could play a role in the series, a sweet Twitter interaction and even a swapping of their Twitter pictures.

In a recent interview with Jimmy Kimmel Badgley responded to rumours of a possible cameo from Cardi B.

'Well, I don't know, I definitely can't say,' he said. 'But there is actually—I believe this is true—there's an actual Change.org petition.'

When pressed further on the rumours, the actor repeated: 'I can't say because I don't know.'

Recurring stars in season three include Scott Speedman (Matthew), Tati Gabrielle (Marienne), Shalita Grant (Sherry), Travis Van Winkle (Cary), and Dylan Arnold (Theo). And let's just say not everyone will make it to season four, given Joe and Love's killing sprees.

If you've finished season three you'll know that Love meets her untimely death at the hands of Joe in the final scenes.

Discussing filming with Badley, Victoria Pedretti who played Love said the Covid-19 pandemic made filming the show's sex scenes far more different to season two.

'I felt very lucky that they [Love and Joe] start off their relationship at odds with each other, navigating the awkwardness of being new parents,' she told Entertainment Tonight. 'It felt strange to be physically intimate very early on, even though we're supposed to be a married couple.'

The actor also said she and Badgley had to find their on-screen mojo again after a year of lockdown. 'It didn't just immediately come back after being in a global pandemic,' she admitted.

What is the You season four plot?

As you might expect, the storyline has been kept firmly under wraps.

The first three seasons have been adapted from a series of novels by Caroline Kepnes, but there's no fourth book - so we have no pointers.

Showrunner Sera Gamble, however, told The Hollywood Reporter that season four will 'explore new, dark facets of love', so there's that.

Is there a You season three trailer?

Yes, here's the trailer to whet your appetite:

If you're already intrigued (we can't say we're surprised) then check out our season three explainer, right here.

Rest assured there'll be plenty of unsettling action and (as far as we can guess) the reappearance of that famous glass box...
