NASCAR All-Star Race live updates: Kyle Larson is a million dollar winner at Texas

The NASCAR All-Star Race is tonight at Texas Motor Speedway. The non-points event starts at 8 p.m. on FS1. The All-Star Open precedes the main race and will determine final entries. That race starts at 6 p.m. on the same network.

The format for the All-Star Race is six rounds: Rounds 1-4 are 15 laps; Round 5 is 30 laps; Round 6 is a 10-lap shootout. For more pre-race reading on the format, favorites and how to watch, click here.

Final Round

FINAL 9:56 p.m., Lap 100: Kyle Larson drives high to pass Chase Elliott after the restart and surges to the front, then leads the final eight laps to win the NASCAR All-Star Race at Texas and a million dollar prize. Brad Keselowski made a gutsy move driving three-wide in the low lane to put himself in second place position, but he wasn’t able to catch Larson at the end, and finished 0.2 seconds behind the winner.

Round 5

9:46 p.m., Lap 90: Chase Elliott wins the round followed by William Byron, Kyle Larson, Ryan Blaney, Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, Denny Hamlin, Alex Bowman, Kurt Busch and Aric Almirola. The leaders don’t pit. Elliott lines up on the outside with Larson behind him. Byron is on the

9:40 p.m., Lap 79: It’s an 11-lap shootout after the race restarts and a line of Hendrick cars surge ahead of restart leader Brad Keselowski in a line. Kyle Larson attempts to make a move to pass Keselowski, but Keselowski holds on...for a little. Larson gets the third place spot back.

9:30 p.m., Lap 78: The Hendrick cars pit together, and Chase Elliott comes out first from pit stops and is behind Brad Keselowski, who pits last and comes off pit road just ahead of Elliott. That means Keselowski will lead the field for the restart. Kyle Busch gets the free pass after his speeding penalty.

9:22 p.m., Lap 65: Kyle Busch and Austin Dillon get speeding penalties on pit road, as they’re among the drivers who pit early while Hendrick Motorsports cars continue to lead. Busch and Dillon must serve a pass-through penalty and become ineligible for the $100,000 bonus prize to the team with the fastest pit stop during this round.

Round 4

9:10 p.m., Lap 60: William Byron wins the fourth round followed by Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin, Christopher Bell, Chase Elliott, Ryan Blaney, Alex Bowman, Matt DiBenedetto, Aric Almirola and Ryan Newman in the top-ten. The next round starting order is based on the cumulative finish of the first four rounds. That means Byron, Larson, Elliott, Blaney and Hamlin will be in the top-five to start the fifth, 30-lap round.

9:04 p.m., Lap 47: William Byron leads the first round from the pole early, as teammate Kyle Larson races up to second place. Those two drivers also lead the with the lowest cumulative finish after the first three rounds, which will matter for the next round starting order.

Round 3

8:59 p.m., Lap 45: Alex Bowman wins Round 3 and the random draw determines that the top-nine finishers in the round will be inverted. The starting order for the next round will be William Byron, Christopher Bell, Denny Hamlin, Kyle Larson, Ryan Newman, Michael McDowell, Aric Almirola, Matt DiBenedetto, Alex Bowman, and Kevin Harvick in the top-10.

8:53 p.m., Lap 40: Alex Bowman continues to lead, but it’s clear which cars are fast working through the field. Ryan Blaney is up to 14th after restarting last, while Kyle Larson is in sixth after starting eighth.

8:49 p.m., Lap 35: Matt DiBenedetto leads and battles Michael McDowell, as Alex Bowman drives up to third. In the back, former leader Ryan Blaney along with Brad Keselowski hang out, highlighting how important track position is here.

Round 2

8:43 p.m., Lap 30: Ryan Blaney wins Round 2. He’s able to block a move by Brad Keselowski, as two Chip Ganassi cars race in the top-five. The entire field will be inverted for the next round, so the order will be Aric Almirola, Matt DiBenedetto, Ryan Newman, Michael McDowell, Alex Bowman, Kevin Harvick, Tyler Reddick, Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell, Austin Dillon, Martin Truex Jr., Joey Logano, Denny Hamlin, Cole Custer, Kyle Busch, Chase Elliott, William Byron, Kurt Busch, Ross Chastain, Brad Keselowski and Ryan Blaney.

8:34 p.m., Lap 20: Ryan Blaney leads the field after battling with Brad Keselowski side-by-side. Blaney also made a big save, controlling his car after he started to lose it off contact from Ross Chastain from behind.

Round 1

8:25 p.m., Lap 15: Kyle Larson wins the first round, but will start 12th for Round 2 with a random draw to determine how many cars will be inverted. The starting order for the next round with the 12-car inversion is Ryan Blaney, Kevin Harvick, Joey Logano, Ross Chastain, Kurt Busch, Brad Keselowski, Austin Dillon, Cole Custer, Chase Elliott, Kyle Busch, William Byron and Kyle Larson.

8:19 p.m., Lap 8: Kyle Larson leads after making a big move to pass Kyle Busch, who led the opening laps. Busch drifts back as William Byron runs up to second, and Chase Elliott passes him on the inside.

8:15 p.m., Lap 1: A lively pre-race ceremony complete with pyrotechnics, cowboys opening a bullpen for cars rolling to the grid and a surprise performance by Sammy Hagar in the crowd blends seamlessly into the green flag, but there’s an early caution for Christopher Bell on the first lap. Bell gets loose, but save his car from crashing. The yellow is out.

All-Star Open

Final round: 10 laps

6:50 p.m., Lap 50: Aric Almiola wins the 10-lap shootout, leading all laps in the final round after an early battle on the restart. Matt DiBenedetto finishes in second, but he makes the All-Star Race by winning the fan vote. Almirola says the track is slick, but the traction compound eventually got activated. The track is also getting more shade as we near sunset. The four drivers advancing to the All-Star Race after the Open are Ross Chastain, Tyler Reddick, Aric Almirola and Matt DiBenedetto.

Round 2: 20 laps

6:38 p.m., Lap 40: Tyler Reddick holds off Aric Almirola to advance to the All-Star Race. Almirola was able to pass Matt DiBenedetto earlier after both worked into the traction compound. Austin Cindric was the first to creep into the PJ1, but he pitted earlier and is running fifth at the flag. A 10-lap shootout is next.

6:30 p.m., Lap 25: Tyler Reddick opts not to pit, along with Matt DiBenedetto and Aric Almirola at the stage break, and quickly become the frontrunners.

Round 1: 20 laps

6:20 p.m., Lap 20: It’s a two-lap shootout won by Ross Chastain, who makes a big move to pass Tyler Reddick on the white flag lap. Chastain will advance to the All-Star Race and Reddick will keep fighting.

6:18 p.m., Lap 17: The caution is out again for Erik Jones, who goes for a big spin after getting loose with Chase Briscoe behind him. Then he drives partly in the traction compound and partly out of it, spins and is hit by the oncoming car of Daniel Suárez. Both are out of the race.

6:12 p.m., Lap 12: Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has a crew member over the wall too soon, and is penalized. He drops to the rear, and after the next restart, it appears there’s contact between Stenhouse and Chris Buescher to send Buescher spinning in Turn 4. The caution is out again.

6:06 p.m., Lap 4: After the green flag, the first caution comes out early for Bubba Wallace, who spins in Turn 2. “Sorry, fellas,” he says on his radio. During the opening laps, Chris Buescher is penalized with a pass-through penalty for jumping the start and Austin Cindric is penalized with a pass-through penalty for changing lanes before start-finish line, but with the caution, both will start at the rear for the next restart.

Pre-race

Three teams dropping to the rear in the Open

Three teams have been penalized due to pre-race technical inspection issues ahead of tonight’s All-Star Open. The No. 42 crew chief, Phil Surgen, has been ejected for the race and the team has been fined $25,000 for aero duct openings on the car not conforming to the required Chevrolet specifications. Additionally, No. 42 driver Ross Chastain will drop to the rear for the start of the race. He was previously slated to start fifth in the Open. Chip Ganassi Racing competition manager Tony Lunders will substitute as crew chief for the race.

Along with Chastain, Austin Cindric and David Starr will drop to the rear for the start of the Open. Cindric’s No. 33 team was penalized for twice failing pre-race technical inspection and Starr’s team was penalized for unapproved adjustments. The were slated to start 16th and last (22nd), respectively.
