N. Hoolywood Men’s Fall 2021

Daisuke Obana continues to make an international splash, even though this time around it’s from his native Japan, with the release of his second collection for his two extension lines N. Hoolywood Compile and N. Hoolywood Test Product Exchange Service, both which were introduced for the spring 2021 show season.

The Compile line is based on the concept of creating formal wear and dress wear in a contemporary context and not adhering to a particular theme, just simple and well-constructed, not to mention extremely lightweight fabrications, all redone the Obana way. This season touches on layering functionality, think fleece jackets layered over an olive green suit, double-zippered jackets and oversize coats that are easily stacked atop sweat-wicking shirting and paired with cropped pants, and liquid-like leather outerwear with matching pants that boast elegance.

Not a stranger to collaborating, another Rebel Fabric by Undercover joint effort is revealed, drawing from Jun Takahashi‘s archives to reproduce a camouflage pattern from Undercover‘s 1996 collection — this time in three iterations: a trench coat, shirt jacket and a pair of voluminous trousers.

While the Compile line is minimal, Test Product Exchange Service offers a multicolored universe that is more utilitarian, drawing from workwear and military styles with a cool factor — inspired by the wares and flashy uniforms that are worn by the flight deck crews of U.S. Navy aircraft carriers, the “Rainbow Sideboys.” These bright hues are achieved by utilizing garment dyes to infuse bold colors into the quilted jackets, bombers, jumpsuits and cargo pants that appear throughout, and finished with the graphics, labels and patches that are typical from these extreme conditions uniforms.
