Much-maligned Daniel Sorensen has pick-six for Chiefs after assist from Ben Niemann

It’s been a long year for Chiefs defensive players Daniel Sorensen and Ben Niemann.

When the Chiefs defense struggled early in the season, much of the ire from Kansas City fans was directed at Sorensen, a safety, and Niemann, a linebacker.

But that duo combined to score a touchdown for the Chiefs during Sunday night’s game against the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium.

With the Chiefs leading 16-3 in the fourth quarter, the Broncos were driving but had a fourth-and-2 play from the KC 27-yard line.

Denver quarterback Teddy Bridgewater faced a heavy pass rush, and he managed to get rid of the ball. Unfortunately for Bridgewater, the ball was tipped by Niemann and went to Sorensen.

Only one Broncos player had a shot to stop Sorensen from reaching the end zone: Bridgewater. Alas, Bridgewater merely his Sorensen’s shoulder, which didn’t do much.

When he was 15 yards from the end zone, Sorensen began to celebrate his touchdown:

“A lot of players doing their job and making it possible for me to be in the right place,” Sorensen said in a postgame interview on NBC. “Our linebacker came up and was able to put pressure on the quarterback and get a tip on the ball and I just happened to be in the right place and just ran it in from there.”

Sorensen, who was roasted on Twitter by Guy’s Snack Company earlier this year, was shown some love on Sunday night.
