VANCOUVER, BC--(Marketwired - May 25, 2016) - Motorino Electric Cycles, Canada's oldest manufacturer and distributor of electric bikes and scooters, announces the launch of North America's first roadside assistance (RSA) program for electric scooters.

Exclusive to Motorino customers, the RSA program is available throughout North America and provides two free tows per electric scooter, up to a distance of 40 kilometres each time. Existing Motorino customers can purchase the annual RSA membership while new owners of a Motorino scooter receive their first year of membership for free.

"Life is not perfect, and we understand that flat tires, dead batteries and other mechanical glitches can happen to even our most careful customers," says Steve Miloshev, president and owner of Motorino Electric Cycles. "The Motorino roadside assistance program should ease any worries of new e-riders and let our customers simply enjoy their scooters whether riding to work, grocery store, wherever."

After joining online or at a dealer, members of the Motorino RSA program receive a card from their dealer. The card contains the membership identification number and telephone number to call for assistance. Once the rider places a call, an approved company will be contacted and travel to the vehicle for maintenance and tow if needed. Assistance is available 24hrs seven days a week.

The Motorino RSA program comes amidst growing acceptance of light electric vehicles as a primary mode of transportation. Cycling-friendly urban design and policies are creating a supportive environment for more electric scooters and bicycles. In all Canadian provinces except PEI electric scooters which meet certain federal and provincial requirements are classified as bicycles, allowing riders to use public bike lanes and racks.

Consumers are noting the affordability and practicality of electric bikes.

"E-bikes have become so popular that virtually all bike shops now carry electric bikes," explains Miloshev. "In fact, our sales during the first four months of 2016 have jumped by 60% compared to last year."

The RSA program is the latest addition to Motorino services. In 2015 the company extended the warranty to five years for electric drive systems for all bikes. Electric bikes and scooters themselves have improved over time too. Many are now able to travel 60 kilometres on a single battery charge.

Miloshev says, "Despite all of the reasons why e-bikes and scooters are smart transportation options, I understand that people have concerns about these new kinds of bikes. Hopefully, our roadside assistance program and the peace of mind it provides will give folks one more reason to consider these bikes."
