More than 70 companies are partnering with WorldPride NYC

For the first time in history, WorldPride will be held in the United States — and corporate America is attending.

More than 70 companies are partnering with WorldPride NYC, including Facebook (FB), T-Mobile (TMUS), and Macy’s (M), to help put on this year’s event. NYC Pride Executive Director Chris Frederick said on Yahoo Finance’s The Final Round that this investment should go beyond the parade.

WorldPride was created in 2000 and has taken place in Rome, Jerusalem, London, Toronto, and Madrid. New York put in its bid to be host city in 2015, and is now preparing to welcome over 4 million New Yorkers and tourists to the festivities, including an opening ceremony at Barclay’s Center featuring Whoopi Goldberg and Billy Porter, and a closing ceremony in Time Square.

“One of the dialogues we’re having with our partners is how to authentically come to the table and not just engage with Pride in the month of June…but how do you give back to other organizations throughout the year.”

Corporate partnership during Pride events is a topic that has garnered both condemnation and acceptance from LGBTQ+ individuals. In looking at how corporate America is treating employees within the community, Frederick says he’d give them a B.

“There’s so much work to be done. Specifically with trans representation internally within the workplace…Yes, you may have all of these policies but what are you doing to actively recruit trans members internally within your workplace.”
