More people collecting EI benefits in Saskatchewan

More people are lining up for employment insurance benefits in Saskatchewan this fall than last.

According to Statistics Canada's EI report from September (the most recent month for which data is available), there were 14,170 beneficiaries that month — 3,280 more than September 2014.

That's a 30 per cent increase for the province, compared to 8.3 per cent for Canada.

The Saskatchewan results were more or less reflected in the two largest cities.

In Regina, the number of people receiving benefits went up 32 per cent from September to September, while in Saskatoon, the corresponding figure was 40 per cent.
