Mom perfectly explains ‘daddy privilege’ in viral TikTok: ‘He’s not a hero, he’s a father’

This TikToker shared an insightful and funny video explaining “daddy privilege” and why it’s a problem!

Chloe (@chloebluffcakes) is a TikToker, parent, and professional baker. While many of Chloe’s videos are baking-related, she recently took to TikTok to talk about the concept of “daddy privilege.” In the video, Chloe discusses how differently she and her husband are treated when they go out in public with their baby son, and how frustrating it is when her husband is treated like a “hero” just for being a dad.

It’s the daddy hero treatment for me 🙃

The video begins with Chloe standing in her kitchen, her baby perched on her hip. “So I’ve got a fun little story for you about daddy privilege,” she says. “You all know if you’ve been following me for a while that I’m a business owner. My husband has a job. I have a business. My husband has a job. Could not make that any clearer, right?”

Chloe then explains that every week she goes to a wholesale store to pick up hundreds of pounds of flour, butter, and other baking materials for her bakery. She did this when she was pregnant, and now she carries her baby with her when she goes.

Last week, however, was different. “So last week, on the day I usually do it, my husband had the day off, and he decided to go do it for me, but he also had the baby that day,” Chloe explains. “When I tell you the way that this man was treated like a hero. A hero!”

Chloe explains that when she purchases baking supplies with her son, no one bats an eye. But the moment her husband showed up at the store carrying his baby, he was complimented repeatedly. “I’m strapped up with a baby or 7 months pregnant, hauling 100 pound bags at a time of flour into the back of my Subaru, meanwhile I’m getting a whole lot of ‘Nothing to see here. Just a woman doing woman things, busting her ass,’” Chloe explains. “But my husband wears the baby and he goes to the restaurant depot for mommy’s business and it’s, ‘Oh my god, look at you! Oh my god, you work so hard!’”

Chloe concludes by explaining, “He’s not a hero. He’s literally just a father, just a parent, doing the same [stuff] I do every week.”

Viewers found Chloe’s “daddy privilege” video extremely relatable.

“My husband was seen on one aisle alone with our twins and was praised by 5 people. I shop alone weekly and it’s crickets,” one parent recalled.

“I relate. Somehow we gotta stop making dads think that basic parental duties deserve public praise and applause. I’m tired,” another TikToker explained.

Other TikTokers suggested making more of an effort to compliment moms out in public with their kids.

“Moral of the story: If you see a momma with her baby, say something! We deserve recognition too!” wrote one TikToker.

“This is why I’m all about hyping up random moms in public,” explained another TikToker.

Chloe’s video serves as a great reminder that all parents and caretakers, regardless of gender, deserve recognition for their hard work!
