Mom aired its series finale on Thursday night (May 13) in the US, but there was one person missing – Christy Plunkett, aka Anna Faris.

Faris left the CBS show at the end of season seven, with her character Christy able to fulfil her lifelong dream of going to law school and accepting a full scholarship at Georgetown Law School in Washington DC.

Speaking to TVLine, Mom boss and co-creator Gemma Baker spoke about why they didn't bring back Faris for the final episode 'My Kinda People and The Big To-Do'.

Baker said: "We felt that it was important to honour [Faris'] decision to leave the show.

"The audience knows that Christy travelled a great distance over seven seasons and overcame so many obstacles in order to follow her dream of becoming a lawyer, and it felt like that story had been addressed in a satisfying way, so we didn't revisit it for the finale."

Faris' character Christy was simply referred to as Bonnie's "daughter" during the final episode.

When asked why there wasn't a direct reference to Christy in the finale, Baker explained that the way Christy was described indicated that she was in a good place with her mother Bonnie (Allison Janney).

"The way she was mentioned casually indicates that Bonnie and Christy are very much still in contact, and that that relationship has really healed," Baker said.

Mom airs on CBS in the US.
