Mizzou Tigers football linebacker Jamie Pettway says he’s transferring

·1 min read

The Missouri Tigers football team lost a defensive player who announced plans to transfer on Monday.

Linebacker Jamie Pettway is leaving the program, a team spokesperson confirmed.

“This was a tough decision, but I believe it was the best for me and my future,” Pettway wrote in a social media post. “I would like to thank all the coaches, strength staff and academic staff for pushing me to be the best student athlete. Thank you to my brothers that I have built a bond with, and also those who pushed me on and off the field.”

Pettway, a redshirt sophomore, appeared in six of seven games for Mizzou this season. He had 10 tackles (six solo) and played 85 total snaps, which was the fourth among linebackers, according to Pro Football Focus.

The Albany, Georgia, native entered the MU program as a three-star recruit in 2019. He didn’t see action as a freshman and barely played last season.

Devin Nicholson, Blaze Alldredge and Chad Bailey have seen the most snaps at linebacker for the Tigers this season. The defense ranks dead last in the FBS in rushing yards (286.6 allowed per game) and last among Power Five teams in total yards (488.3 per game) and yards allowed per rush (6.15).

Following a bye week, Mizzou faces Vanderbilt on the road at 2 p.m. Saturday.
