While a shake-up on the coaching staff isn't unexpected, it is somewhat surprising that Philbin is the first victim here. The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero reported that defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle was more likely to be fired than Philbin.
After the Dolphins lost a listless Week 4 game in London to the Jets, Philbin met with Dolphins owner Stephen Ross. Philbin told reporters that the meeting wasn't contentious and that he wasn't worried about his job security.
After spending $219 million in the offseason to build a contender, through four weeks, the Dolphins have looked far from the best team in the AFC East. The defense has been a massive disappointment, with players seemingly turning on the coaches, and the offense has been uninspiring, if not as wholly disastrous as the defense.
