Mercedes' Formula One team is having the most dominant season in 60 years

The Mercedes-AMG Formula One team's Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg dominated the 2015 British Grand Prix — finishing first and second place, respectively. And as a team, they're enjoying the most dominant season in more than 60 years.

Nearing the half-way point of the season, Mercedes-AMG has seen both of its drivers finish in the top three in all nine races that have been run. According to AFP, the last team to achieve this feat was Ferrari, in 1953.

As a result, Mercedes-AMG has all but wrapped up this year's constructor's championship. In addition, its drivers are in line to finish first and second in the driver's for a second successive season.

The team has been absolutely unstoppable since the beginning of the 2014 season — including last season, Mercedes-AMG has won 24 of 28 races.

Here's what happened at last weekend's British Grand Prix.

The Silverstone Circuit has been home to the British Grand Prix since the inception of Formula One in 1950.

As expected, celebrities turned up to take in the race. Here, "Star Wars" creator George Lucas is seen having chat with 3-time world champion Sir Jackie Stewart.

Former Spice Girls Geri Halliwell and Emma Bunton brought their children to the race.

Halliwell also cheered on her husband, Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner.

Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn gave World Champion Lewis Hamilton a kiss before the race.

Hamilton kicked off the weekend in style by taking the pole position on Saturday — his eighth pole of the season.

Although we're only at the halfway point in the season, the championship has been come down to just three drivers —the Mercedes tandem of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg and Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel.

Hamilton had a poor start to the race. Williams Grand Prix driver Felipe Massa took the lead at the first corner.

But soon, the Mercedes duo righted the ship and took its place at the front of the pack.

As the race wore on, it became a battle between teammates. Hamilton held the lead, but Rosberg caught up to the Brit.

However, the tide changed when the skies opened up and it began to rain. Hamilton dove into the pits to switch to rain tires. But Rosberg gambled and stayed out on racing "slicks" — tires that don't grip as well when its wet.

Hamilton's strategy worked. He cemented his lead.

Ferrari's 4-time world champion Sebastian Vettel was never a true threat for victory and finished third.

After a fast start, Massa and teammate Valtteri Bottas settled for well-deserved fourth and fifth place finishes.

Several drivers didn't quite make it to the end of the race. Here, Toro Rosso driver Carlos Sainz Jr. jumps out of his car after its engine failed on the 32nd lap.

Hamilton and Rosberg stand together on the podium for the ninth time in nine races this year.

The defending world champion's fans turned up in droves to cheer him on.

Hamilton's victory is the 38th of his career.

Hamilton is the winningest Brit to ever drive a Grand Prix car ...

... and the fifth winningest driver in Formula One history.
