The Duchess of Sussex will reportedly only have “kind words” to say about the Duchess of Cambridge, despite fears from Buckingham Palace that Meghan will criticise her sister-in-law.

For the first time since they stepped away from their duties as senior royals in March 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will participate in a high-profile televised interview with Oprah Winfrey on Sunday evening.

The interview, which has been described by the CBS as an “intimate conversation”, is said to cover “wide-ranging” topics with Harry expected to say that he stepped back from royal duties because he feared “history repeating itself” following the death of his mother, Princess Diana.

Despite the myriad of topics said to have been discussed, the New York Post reported on Saturday that the palace is concerned that Meghan will reveal details of a rift between her and Kate, which will cause “vast” damage to the British monarchy.

Although they were initially seen as close, rumours of a falling-out between the pair was ignited in 2018 when royal sources claimed to Tatler magazine that Kate was left in tears during a “stressful” fitting for Meghan’s bridesmaid dress ahead of her wedding to Harry.

The sources claimed that after the dress fitting did not go to Meghan’s plans, the day became too much for Kate who was left shaken and in tears by the exchange.

The magazine also reported that the pair had a “row” at Meghan’s wedding rehearsal, over whether bridesmaids should wear tights, after Kate thought they should follow royal protocol and the Duchess of Sussex reportedly disagreed.

While royal experts told The Sun on Saturday that the relationship between the two couples is in a bad place, claiming that Meghan “has the power to lay bare just how bad things really were between her, Harry, William and Kate.”

However, a CBS insider told the Post on Saturday that despite the reported animosity, Meghan and Harry only had “kind words” to say about Kate in the interview, claiming that the Sussexes will not reveal any alleged rift between the two couples.

Conflicting reports about the relationship between Meghan and Kate have been published over the last week, as accusations of bullying were alleged about Meghan by two former members of palace staff.

However, the accusations were described as a “calculated smear campaign” by the Sussexes, as several of Meghan’s friends and former colleagues defended her character on social media.

Viewers will find out what Meghan divulges soon enough, as the two-hour interview will air on Sunday 7 March on CBS, before being broadcast on ITV in the UK on Monday 8 March.
