The BBC has apologised to users after its weather app mistakenly showed forecasts for "hurricane force" winds near London and temperatures over 400C in Nottingham. BBC Weather forecasters were quick to point out the issue and make clear the incorrect graphics were being looked into. "Oops, don't be alarmed by some of our [BBC Weather app] data this morning," lead BBC Weather presenter and meteorologist Simon King wrote on X.

STORY: EDIT 0744:: Sarasota, FloridaHurricane Milton made landfall on Florida's west coast on Wednesday and marched across the center of the state.The storm so far has whipped up deadly tornadoes, destroyed homes and knocked out power to nearly 2 million customers. The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Milton made landfall around 8:30 p.m. as a Category 3 hurricane south of Tampa Bay with maximum sustained winds of 120 miles per hour. By 11 p.m. wind speeds had reduced to 105 mph, dropping Milton to a Category 2. EDIT 0770:: St. Petersburg, Florida:: X/@juliaAFBA flash flood emergency was in effect for the Tampa Bay area including the cities of Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater……with St. Petersburg getting over 16 inches of rain on Wednesday, according to the NHC. EDIT 0768:: X/@Catharine1228Eyewitness video verified by Reuters showed strong winds there ripping pieces of the roof off of Tropicana Field Stadium, where the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team plays. EDIT 0735:: CSU/CIRA & NOAAMilton’s eye landed in Siesta Key, a barrier island town of some 5,400 off Sarasota, about 60 miles south of Tampa Bay, where it had been thought the storm would land.EDIT 0555Governor Ron DeSantis said he hoped Tampa Bay could avoid major damage……and that the worst of the predicted storm surge could be avoided thanks to the landfall coming before high tide. Forecasters said seawater could still rise as high as 13 feet. EDIT 0689:: Clewiston, Florida:: Koby Kreiger/TMXDeSantis reported Milton had also spawned at least 19 tornadoes that caused damage in numerous counties, destroying around 125 homes. EDIT 0688:: Fort Myers, Florida1:20-2:24NBC News said that at least two deaths were reported at a retirement community following a suspected tornado in Fort Pierce on Florida's eastern coast. Milton was expected to cross the Florida peninsula overnight and emerge into the Atlantic, still with hurricane force, on Thursday.
