Media Advisory - Black Creek Community Health Centre workers on strike at North York Sheridan Mall

·1 min read

TORONTO, June 13, 2021 /CNW/ - Striking Health care workers at Black Creek Community Health Centre will begin picketing Monday, June 14 at North York Sheridan Mall.

The strike comes as a result of Black Creek Community Health Centre's management denying workers the one per cent wage increases permitted under Bill 124, after many gruelling months of bargaining talks. Management and their counsel, without notice, abandoned talks and walked away from the bargaining table Saturday evening, forcing OPSEU/SEFPO Local 5117 workers into strike position.

"It's deeply disappointing that Black Creek is treating their health care workers with such blatant disrespect," said OPSEU/SEFPO President Warren (Smokey) Thomas. "The community health workers are deeply connected to the patients and clients they see every day. They didn't want to strike, but after being inexplicably forced to take action, they have to stand up for the value of care they provide and the people they care for. I am looking forward to joining them on the picket line to show them that OPSEU/SEFPO is behind them all the way."

What:

OPSEU/SEFPO Local 5117 Strike

Date:

Monday, June 14

Location/time:

2202 Jane St., North York from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The OPSEU/SEFPO members, who will be on the picket line at the North York Sheridan Mall entrance north of Wilson from Jane Street, are fighting for fair wages for all of the community health centre's workers.

President Thomas will be joining the picket line at about 9:30 a.m. on Monday.
