Mazdaspeed 3 Concept Coming To 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show: Report

Motor Authority

One of the stars of this September’s 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show could turn out to be a concept previewing an all-new Mazdaspeed 3 hot hatch to rival the Ford Motor Company [NYSE:F] Focus RS, Honda Civic Type R and Volkswagen Golf R—yes, after a few lean years, hot hatch buyers are suddenly going to be spoiled for choice.

The upcoming concept is said to preview a production model whose arrival will coincide with a mid-cycle update for the Mazda 3 range in the 2017 model year. Power is said to come from a new turbocharged 2.5-liter engine delivering upwards of 295 horsepower, and as we’ve previously reported drive will most likely be channeled to all four wheels this time around.

The news about the Mazdaspeed 3 concept comes from Motoring, which also reports that a next-generation CX-9 will debut at November’s 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show and will be followed by a new CX-7. This new CX-7 will reportedly grow in size compared to the last one to better fill the gap between compact CX-3 and largish CX-9 and will offer 5+2 seating just like Land Rover’s new Discovery Sport.

Stay tuned for an update.
