Celebrity MasterChef star John Torode has admitted that he and Gregg Wallace inevitably encounter "a little frisson" of disagreement between themselves when filming the show.

During a recent interview with Radio Times, Torode spoke about whether there was any on-screen tension with his fellow judge.

"We lead separate lives," Torode said. "At no stage have we morphed into each other, which means there's always going to be a little frisson here and there."

The Australian-British chef went on to stress: "It's no bad thing; there's an energy with that tension, which is useful.

Locking horns whilst co-judging the reality TV competition is part and parcel of their roles, it seems, as Wallace previously admitted that one particular decision is still a sore point between him and Torode.

"There's a disagreement that still rumbles on from Celebrity MasterChef in 2006," he revealed. "We were choosing between Hardeep Singh Kohli and Matt Dawson in the final, and we still disagree now. Every now and again I bring it up when I'm feeling irritable."

Keep doing your thing, John and Gregg – it makes top entertainment.

This year's series of Celebrity MasterChef gets under way next week, and features the likes of Strictly Come Dancing pro Johannes Radebe, ex-EastEnders actress Rita Simons and Love Island's Kem Cetinay.

Celebrity MasterChef returns to BBC One on Monday, August 9 at 9pm.
