Man and woman charged with arson in Gull Lake hotel fire

A man, 46, and a woman, 30, have been charged with arson after a massive fire burned a hotel in Gull Lake, Sask. to the ground earlier this month.

On October 9, the historic Clarendon Hotel was completely destroyed by a massive fire. Firefighters had to knock down numerous walls to fight the fire, reducing the building to rubble.

The hotel was built in 1907, and the town of Gull Lake wanted to have the building declared a heritage property.

No one was hurt in the fire.

The suspects have both been charged with arson and break and enter, as well as possession of stolen property and breach of probation. The man is from Gull Lake, and the woman is from Swift Current.

Both of them appeared in a Swift Current Provincial court this week.
