Man City player ratings vs Man United: Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus disappoint in derby

Manchester City’s remarkable winning run was brought to a halt by rivals Manchester United at the Etihad.

Gabriel Jesus tripped Anthony Martial after just 35 seconds to concede a penalty, converted by Bruno Fernandes, before Luke Shaw added a fine second in the second half as United won 2-0.

The result will do little to slow City’s march to the title, but they would have wanted it to be anyone but United who ended the winning run.

Here is how James Robson rated Pep Guardiola’s side...

Ederson 6

Big save to deny Martial in the second half. Maybe could have done better when getting a hand to Fernandes’ penalty.

Joao Cancelo 5

Nothing like as influential as he has been this season and beaten far too easily by Shaw for United’s second goal.

Ruben Dias 6

Had a handful trying to keep Martial quiet, with the France forward a nuisance at the point of United’s attack.

John Stones 6

Some vital interceptions – particularly in the first half when United broke.

Oleksandr Zinchenko 7

Had some dangerous moments and had the better James on that side of the pitch. Forced a good save from Henderson.

Rodrigo 6

Saw plenty of the ball as a key part of City’s build up and so close to finding the back of the net when hitting the bar from the edge of the box.

Raheem Sterling 5

Not his day. Missed one golden second half chance and largely dealt with by Wan-Bissaka.

Ilkay Gundogan 7

Kept ghosting into shooting positions, which United struggled to track in the first half. A danger throughout.

Kevin de Bruyne 5

Struggled to shake off the attentions of Fred, which stopped him from making his mark on this game.

Riyad Mahrez 6

Given little space, but looked dangerous when he had the ball – coming desperately close to scoring just before the break.

Gabriel Jesus 5

Clumsy challenge on Martial handed United an early penalty and failed to take his chances at the other end.

Substitutes

Kyle Walker (Cancelo, 65’) 5

Vocal from the bench. Little influence when he came on.

Phil Foden (Jesus, 70’) 6

Why didn’t he start? Made things happen when he came on.

Subs not used: Steffen, Aguero, Laporte, Bernardo, Torres, Mendy, Fernandinho
