LoveShackFancy RTW Fall 2021

Rebecca Hessel Cohen’s fall collection for LoveShackFancy marks “a return to beautiful romance” and the joys of getting dressed up. Spending most of her time in the Hamptons over the last year, the designer was influenced by the gardens surrounding her, as well as beautiful interiors and decorations, such as old wallpapers, French linens and vintage Norwegian plaid blankets, which she collects.

Always rich in femininity through floral prints, embroideries, lace, bows and vintage-inspired textiles (which the designer sources each season and reworks into her collections), the fall collection also touched on preppy styles from Netflix’ “Emily in Paris” and romantic, Empire-waisted, cap-sleeved gowns a la “Bridgerton.”

“As we’re sitting at home watching Netflix, every time I finish another series I’m like, ‘Oh yeah we have to put that in,’” Hessel Cohen said over Zoom.

The look: A mix of the LoveShackFancy signature, soft romance with rich textures and transitional, playful layers.

Quote of note: “I really picture her in July-August-September-October, she’s still in those gardens, she’s running with the horses, dressing up in the country but also traveling. I think there’s this beautiful old romance that’s throughout all of it, she’s feeling very feminine and free and wants to layer these beautiful textures for fall.”

Key pieces: An abundance of knits — evolved from cheeky cardigans into Fair Isle, embroidered and collar-adorned numbers, new printed cashmere offerings and knit dresses; fresh miniskirts, which came knit or in a preppier “boarding school girl” tweeds and plaids (stellar with matching topcoats and cute little blouses); lacy printed patchwork dresses and fluid frocks in a mix of large scale-, wallpaper-, ditsy florals and smaller ribbon jacquards.

The takeaway: Layered all together, the rich textures; dusty, pretty palette, and loads of new silhouettes (both sweet and short or sweeping and romantic) combined made for a very of-the-now and aspirational collection.
