The Lotus Emeya Is a 905-HP Electric Super Sedan

The Lotus Emeya Is a 905-HP Electric Super SedanLotus

Lotus is pushing toward becoming an all-electric rival to Porsche, and after the Eletre SUV, its next challenger is this, the Emeya. Based on the same new platform as the Eletre, the Emeya is what Lotus calls a "hyper GT." The brand promises up to 905 hp from two electric motors and a 2.8-second 0-62 mph time.

The Emeya uses a 102-kWh battery pack and shares its 800-volt electrical architecture with the Eletre. Lotus says the range should be "broadly similar" to that of the Eletre, which uses a slightly larger 112-kWh battery. The 603-hp Eletre and Eletre S have a range of 372 miles on the European test cycle, which is a lot more optimistic than the EPA test. So figure around 300 miles for a base, lower-powered version and a bit less than that for the 905-hp version. The 800-volt architecture allows for 350-kW fast charging, which can add 93 miles of in as little as five minutes.

Like the Eletre, the Emeya uses an air suspension system that can read the road 1000 times a second to determine conditions and adjust accordingly. Active aerodynamic devices including a front grille, air dam, rear wing, and rear diffuser help keep drag low while addressing the electric powertrain's cooling requirements and adding downforce for better performance.

The design is quite a lot like the Eletre's, and in person, the Emeya appears to be bigger than the likes of the Porsche Taycan and more similar in size to the Mercedes EQE and Lucid Air. Inside, it's shockingly luxurious for a Lotus, with a huge center touch screen and the de riguer mixture of sustainable materials.

The rear electric motor drives through a two-speed gearbox—a la the Taycan—while the front uses a single-speed 'box. We're assuming that the Emeya will follow the Eletre's model-variant scheme with base and S models offering 603 hp and the R model at the top of the range with 905. As standard, the car comes on 21-inch wheels, but the reveal cars all wear 22s wrapped with Lotus-spec Michelin Pilot Sport EV tires. Carbon ceramic brakes are also an option.

As for pricing, we don't know. It's fair to assume it'll be similar to that of the Eletre, and we're guessing the SUV should cost somewhere between $85,000 for the base model and $120,000 for the R. Lotus says it will reveal more information on the Emeya before the end of the year, and production is set to begin sometime in 2024.
