Longtime Tri-Cities doctor picked for elected post on the hospital district board

Dr. Sheila Dunlop, a longtime Kennewick physician, has been picked by the Kennewick Public Hospital District board to fill the vacant seat on the seven-member elected board.

She fills the unexpired term on the board of Dr. Leonard Dreisbach, who moved out of state. Eight people applied for the position.

The district, which remains after the sale of Trios Hospital in Kennewick, addresses unmet health needs in Kennewick and parts of Richland and Benton County.

Dunlop said that the board’s mission “will require creative thinking and lots of planning in collaboration with other health care services in the Tri-Cities.”

Dunlop was the first osteopathic leader of the Benton Franklin Medical Society, was twice chairwoman of the Family Medicine Department at Kennewick General Hospital, and later led the KGH General Medicine Department.

In addition, she was the founding director of the Trios Family Medicine Residency Program. She served for seven years as the first Tri-Cities regional dean for the Pacific Northwest University in Yakima.
