Local restaurant chain closes both longtime Boise locations. Nampa? Still open

If your favorite Boise breakfast has included lemon poppy-seed pancakes or tasty “Spudsations” for the past decade, prepare to drive west.

Local chain The Egg Factory has pulled out of Boise, closing its locations at 8061 W. Fairview Ave. and 6882 W. State St. They were shuttered earlier this month, owner Brian Godsill said, speaking by phone from the Sunrise Family Restaurant in Caldwell, which he also runs.

The Egg Factory in Nampa is still open, dishing up breakfast and lunch at 820 W. Caldwell Blvd. Its hours are 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. seven days a week.

Founded by Godsill and his wife, Barbara, the first Egg Factory opened in Boise on Dec. 22, 2008, in the Shopko Plaza at Milwaukee Street. The Nampa store and second Boise location soon followed.

The family-friendly Egg Factory is known for mixing hearty, home-style breakfast basics with touches of creative flair. The restaurant’s “Spudsations” are “deep-fried cubes of spuds they call Factory Potatoes,” a Statesman reviewer once noted, adding that they “smother them with, say, chunks of chicken-fried steak and gravy or corned beef hash and swiss cheese, and two eggs any style.”

“Another touch of innovation,” the reviewer added, “comes in the form of ‘crepe eggs,’ which are like tiny breakfast burritos wrapped in light and sweet crepes.”

The extensive Egg Factory menu also features lunch options ranging from taco and chicken salads to sandwiches and burgers.
