Loblaw puts 'no name' lager on tap in Ontario with buck-a-beer promotion
Loblaw’s no name beer is coming to an aisle near you this weekend. And for a limited time, it will only cost you a buck-a-beer.
Buck-a-beer was one of Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s key campaign promises but brewers have not been eager to take part.
A six-pack of no name beer will sell for $6.60 (including deposit) from February 15 until February 17, or while supplies last. It will be available at lcbo.com and select LCBO locations.
“When we piloted ‘buck-a-beer’ to Ontarians last fall, the results were unbelievable,” says Ian Gordon, senior vice president of no name, in a news release.
“We had record-breaking sales and incredible consumer feedback. It was an easy decision to bring the no name® brand to this category at this price.”
After the long weekend, the price goes up to $10.45, which barely undercuts top sellers like Labatt Blue at $10.95 for a six-pack.
If you miss out this weekend, there will be more opportunities to stock up at buck-a-beer prices. Loblaw (L.TO) says this is the first of a series of weekends that this promotion will be running throughout the year.
The Canadian-style lager is brewed in Ontario. Packaging is the bright yellow-and-black format that has remained relatively unchanged for decades.
“Our no name® brand was built on a promise of simple products at outstanding value. This is what we’re bringing to beer drinkers who are looking for a quality beer, without all the lifestyle frills,” says Gordon.
