Line of Duty: Eagle-eyed viewers think they’ve spotted another ‘H’ clue in episode 4

Line of Duty fans have spotted a potential clue that hints at the identity of “H”.

The previous seasons of the BBC One police drama have focused on the search for “H”, a corrupt crime syndicate made up of four corrupt officers working within the upper ranks of the police.

*Spoilers follow – you have been warned!*

During last week’s episode of Line of Duty, one scene saw Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) and Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) convene in an underpass but eagle-eyed viewers found themselves distracted by the “H” hiding in plain sight as part of the surrounding graffiti.

“Not that I’m going OTT with the #LineofDuty analysis here but check out the graffiti between Hastings and Kate here,” wrote The Chase star Jenny Ryan on Twitter, accompanied by a screenshot of the scene in question.

“Oooh, another clue! The letter ‘H’ in the graffiti,” added another, while someone else wrote: “There’s an ‘H’ in graffiti on the underpass wall.”

“Was there a clue in the graffiti tunnel? When Kate was stood facing Ted there was a massive H on the wall next to her?!” asked a third user.

Many viewers pointed out that the graffitied “H” is followed by what appears to be the word “NOT”.

A person wrote: “Mother of God! If you read that graffiti from Kate’s shoulder onwards it only blood well says ‘Not H’ #LineofDuty and their Easter eggs constantly amaze me. Surreal details.”

Someone else added: “... and it says NO straight after. I am going to have to watch this again, I appear to have missed so much.”

It is not clear what the clue would mean and it is entirely possible that the supposed hint is a deliberate misdirection, which some viewers also suggested.

Adding to her original post, Ryan commented: “I do think that the production team have had a bit of fun slipping in the letter H to the background during this series. Cheeky buggers.”

Last week, viewers similarly spotted an “H” hidden within the kitchen tiles in the background of a scene.

Creator Jed Mercurio previously told Radio Times: “If you have created a set of mysteries, you also have to understand the significance of misdirection and red herrings.”

“We do use misdirection at times. And it’s deliberate.”

Line of Duty continues on Sundays at 9pm on BBC One.
