YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Shortly after he sold a circa 1930s ranch style residence on a pancake flat .35-acre parcel in the desirable Colfax Meadows neighborhood in Studio City, CA, for $2,237,400 Leo DiCaprio chopped the asking price of a beachfront home in Malibu by nearly one million dollars, $955,000 to be exact.
Property records indicate Mister DiCaprio acquired the Studio City property in March 2014 for $2,050,000 from his cousin and business associate Robert Hrtica and listing details show the 3,407-square-foot single-story residence has four bedrooms and three bathrooms plus a combination living/dining room with fireplace and wood floors, a spacious eat-in kitchen with high-end appliances, and a family room with another fireplace as well as a mirrored wet bar. A bank of French doors in the family room lead to a spacious, private and tree-ringed backyard that features a water guzzling expanse of lawn and a trellis-shaded brick dining terrace that overlooks a huge swimming pool.
In Malibu, where the Oscar-winning actor previously owned at least two multi-million dollar ocean front residences, Mister DiCaprio owns a luxuriously appointed but still comfortably casual home along Carbon Beach, a stretch of sand often referred to as Billionaire’s Beach for the number of billionaires that maintain homes there. He bought the house back in 1998 for $1.6 million and, after setting it out for lease in 2015 at $23,000 per month, put up for sale in amid much hoopla and brouhaha in all the property gossip columns in early September with an in-hindsight much to optimistic asking price of $10.95 million that’s been slashed to $9.995 million. Digital marketing materials show the gun-metal grey two-story residence was built in 1950 and measures in at 1,765-square feet with three bedrooms, two bathrooms. A living room with fireplace wraps around to a dining area that’s open to a somewhat compact but certainly snazzily outfitted galley kitchen. Wood-trimmed glass sliders open the open-plan living/dining/cooking areas to a roomy glass-railed oceanfront deck with a hot tub and private staircase to the beach.
Even with the sale of the Studio City property and even after he sells the Malibu house, Mister DiCaprio, who is listed as a producer on a handful of upcoming film and television projects including the thriller “Delirium” and the action/adventure “Robin Hood: Origins,” still maintains a heavy-duty real estate load. In Los Angeles he owns at least three houses, two neighboring properties near the tippy top of the Bird Streets ‘hood and another in the hills above Silver Lake and in New York City he continues to own a three-bedroom and 2.5-bathroom pad in an ornately embellished late 19th-century converted factory building that he picked up in May 2014 for $10 million as well as a pair of side-by-side apartments in a vast complex in the Battery Park area that combined span almost 6,000-square-feet and were bought in two separate transactions, one in 2008 and the other in 2014, that totaled $11,665,700. He additionally owns a downright spectacular, Donald Wexler-designed mid-century tour-de-force in Palm Springs that was picked up in early 2014 for $5.23 million — it was built in 1964 for Dinah Shore — and he co-owns Blackadore Caye, an unpopulated 104-acre private island in the Central American country of Belize that was acquired in 2005 for $1.75 million and that is being developed in to a super-luxe eco-resort.
