Legion Unveils New Medals for National Youth Track and Field Championships

LANGLEY, BC--(Marketwired - August 11, 2014) - The Sports Committee Chairman of The Royal Canadian Legion, Mr. André Paquette, unveiled the new gold, silver and bronze medals for the 2014 Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships being held in Langley from August 15th to the 17th, 2014.

"I am very proud of the new design," says Mr. André Paquette. "In honour of the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings the medal mirrors a classic photo of Canadian troops landing on Juno Beach," adds Paquette. "This new design appropriately defines our commitment to remember and honours the sacrifices of generations past for the freedoms enjoyed today," says Paquette.

The medals, gold, silver and bronze, will be awarded to those athletes that have achieved a corresponding level of success during these championships.

About the Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships
These championships have undergone several changes over the years since its current format was adopted in Oromocto, New Brunswick in 1977. With almost one thousand athletes participating in this annual event one can safely assume that The Royal Canadian Legion's National Youth Track and Field Championships will not only survive but prosper in years to come.
