OAKVILLE, ON --(Marketwired - April 28, 2016) - MADD Canada is pleased to announce that more than $2.3 million was raised to support its School Assembly Program and Project Red Ribbon during LCBO's December 2015 Giving Back In Our Community fundraising campaign.

During the 2015 Giving Back campaign, LCBO staff invited customers to add a $2, $5 or $10 donation to their purchase. Project Red Ribbon donation boxes were also available at LCBO check-out counters.

The funds raised for MADD Canada support its School Assembly Program, a film and in-class curriculum that educates students about the risks of impaired driving. This compelling film features a combination of a fictional storyline and testimonials from real-life victims of impaired driving. The program encourages students in grades 7-12 to make responsible choices, and to not drink or take drugs and drive or ride along with someone who has.

"Thanks to the incredible support of LCBO staff and the generosity of customers, MADD Canada can continue to deliver this powerful and effective message to students to help keep them safe from impaired driving," said MADD Canada National President Angeliki Souranis. "We are deeply grateful for LCBO's continued commitment and partnership."

"LCBO's generous customers and committed Retail staff are committed to helping educate youth on how to prevent impaired driving and empower them to make responsible choices by raising much-needed funds for MADD Canada during the December 2015 Giving Back In Our Community campaign in our stores," says Acting LCBO President & CEO George Soleas. "This December, we raised a total of $5.36 million benefitting MADD Canada and Ontario's four regional children's hospitals. These donations ensure that more than half a million students at more than 1,500 Ontario schools see the School Assembly Program at no cost to the schools."
