Need To Know: Altice USA, Inc. (NYSE:ATUS) Insiders Have Been Selling Shares

It is not uncommon to see companies perform well in the years after insiders buy shares. Unfortunately, there are also plenty of examples of share prices declining precipitously after insiders have sold shares. So shareholders might well want to know whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in Altice USA, Inc. (NYSE:ATUS).

Do Insider Transactions Matter?

It's quite normal to see company insiders, such as board members, trading in company stock, from time to time. However, most countries require that the company discloses such transactions to the market.

We would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing. But it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing. For example, a Harvard University study found that 'insider purchases earn abnormal returns of more than 6% per year.

Altice USA Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Director, Dennis Okhuijsen, for US$14m worth of shares, at about US$24.73 per share. That means that even when the share price was below the current price of US$28.25, an insider wanted to cash in some shares. We generally consider it a negative if insiders have been selling, especially if they did so below the current price, because it implies that they considered a lower price to be reasonable. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. This single sale was 100% of Dennis Okhuijsen's stake.

In the last twelve months insiders netted US$14m for 581724 shares sold. Altice USA insiders didn't buy any shares over the last year.
