Kentucky native Holly Forbes loses ‘The Voice’ knockout round — but her dream lives on

Holly Forbes advanced to the live rounds of “The Voice” Monday, but she’ll be there with a new coach after losing her knockout round.

The native of Catlettsburg, Kentucky, continued to show off her vocal range in her third appearance on the show, singing “Superstar” by Delaney and Bonnie. Her opponent, Ohio trio Girl Named Tom, followed that up by performing Glen Campbell “Wichita Lineman.”

“What do I do?” Clarkson asked after the singers on her team performed. It was up to her to declare a winner between the two acts, who both had all four coaches turn their chair during the blind auditions to start the season.

Before Clarkson made her decision, the other three coaches gave Forbes plenty of praise. Ariana Grande called the Forbes the winner of the round, saying her voice is the type that made her want to start singing.

“That was just perfect singing,” John Legend added. “When you do it right, it just tugs at people’s hearts.”

Blake Shelton said Forbes’ performance was “incredible.”

“It was tasteful, it was beautiful,” Shelton said. “Great job.”

Clarkson, who described Forbes’ voice as beautiful and edgy, ultimately picked Girl Named Tom as the winner of the round. But Forbes was not eliminated, as the remaining coaches had the opportunity to steal her and have her join one of their teams.

Grande and Legend both took that opportunity. Earlier in the season, Grande used her sole block to prevent Forbes from picking Legend in the blind auditions, but the pop singer did not have that luxury Monday.

Forbes said earlier in the season that Grande was her daughter’s favorite singer, and she did not pass up a second opportunity to join her team. She’ll stick around on “The Voice” — this time on Team Ariana.

“You’re everything I love as a performer,” Grande told the Boyd County native.

Forbes said during the first round she works as a caregiver for patients with autism and other developmental and intellectual disabilities. She was among the seven singers in the blind auditions to have all four coaches turn their chairs.

She was one of two Kentucky contestants to advance to the knockout round. But Kinsey Rose, the Louisville native who represented the Bluegrass State along with Forbes, saw her road end on Monday’s show.

Rose, who was also a member of Team Kelly, lost her battle round to Gymani and none of the other coaches opted to steal her.
