Kansas City police identify Friday’s fatal shooting victim as 32-year-old man

Kansas City police have identified the person shot and killed Friday afternoon as 32-year-old Edmon Alexander III.

Officers initially responded to the sound of shots fired in the area of 43rd Street and Askew Avenue just after 7:30 p.m.

At the same time, a second report of shots fired was reported nearby at 43rd Street and Cleveland Avenue, Kansas City police said.

When officers arrived, they found Alexander in the parking lot of a corner market suffering from gunshot wounds.

Alexander was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Details of what led to the shooting have not been made available. Suspect information has not been released.

Alexander’s death marked the 137th homicide this year in Kansas City, according to data tracked by The Star.
