Kansas City Chiefs practiced without star receiver Tyreek Hill for second straight day

·2 min read

The Chiefs were still down four key players for Thursday’s practice ahead of Sunday’s noon game at Tennessee.

Wide receiver Tyreek Hill (quad contusion), linebacker Anthony Hitchens (triceps contusion), fullback Michael Burton (left pectoral strain) and left guard Joe Thuney (hand) missed practice for the second straight day.

Hill hurt his quad in Week 5 but battled through it last Sunday in Washington, playing on 47 snaps.

Last week, the Chiefs’ No. 1 wide receiver didn’t get onto the field for two days before returning to practice Friday. He nevertheless played Sunday against the Washington Football Team, and the Chiefs might be repeating that process this week as their game against the Titans approaches.

Thuney was rested Wednesday, too. The starting left guard fractured his hand in Week 5’s loss to Buffalo but didn’t miss snaps over the past two games.

Everyone else on the Chiefs’ roster practiced Thursday in some capacity.

That included defensive lineman Chris Jones (wrist), cornerback Charvarius Ward (quad), safety Tyrann Mathieu (thumb, toe), tight end Travis Kelce (neck), defensive tackle Jarran Reed (back) and guard Trey Smith (ankle). The Chiefs on Wednesday had designated those six as limited participants in practice. Reed and Smith were able to put in a full practice Thursday, while the other four remained limited.

Tight end Blake Bell (back), left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. (groin), cornerback L’Jarius Sneed (wrist), defensive tackle Khalen Saunders (ankle) and cornerback Chris Lammons (shin) practiced fully for the second straight day.

For the Titans, wide receiver A.J. Brown (illness), tackle Taylor Lewan (concussion), wide receiver Chester Rogers (groin) and running back Derrick Henry (rest) did not practice. Receiver Julio Jones (hamstring), cornerback Chris Jackson (ankle), running back Jeremy McNichols (ankle), linebacker Monty Rice (groin) and linebacker Bud Dupree (knee), meanwhile, were limited.

Kicker Randy Bullock (shoulder), fullback Khari Blasingame (shoulder) and guard Rodger Saffold (shoulder) practiced fully, according to the Titans’ daily injury report.
