New song, big bucks: Justin Bieber by the numbers

The spotlight is on "The Biebs" again. Justin Bieber’s new song, What Do You Mean, has officially dropped. He will perform it live at Sunday’s Video Music Awards. But Bieber has made more headlines of late for his social life and run-ins with the law than for his musical talent.

Here’s a look at Justin Bieber, by the numbers.

$80 million

That’s the amount of money Justin Bieber earned in 2014 despite the fact that he did not release an album.

21

That’s how old the pop star is. Justin Drew Bieber was born on March 1, 1994 in Ontario, Canada.

2007

Bieber learned how to play guitar and piano at a young age. When he was 13, Bieber’s mother began posting YouTube videos of her son performing for friends and family to see. He covered mostly R&B songs and quickly developed a large online following.

One year later, he met singer/songwriter/producer Usher and went on to sign a contract on Island/Def Jam records.

7

That’s the number of songs on Bieber's first album, My World. The album dropped in 2009.

My World was followed by My World 2.0 less than a year later. It was his first full-length album and earned him two Grammy nominations in 2010. However, he did not win.

#9

Bieber’s 2013 ranking on Forbes’ Celebrity 100 list hit #9. But just one year later, he fell to #33. He did not make the Forbes 2015 list.

5+

That's the number of legal run-ins the pop star has had over the past two years. Charges include assault, vandalism, reckless driving and DUI. Because of court orders and settlements, Bieber has had to attend anger management classes, make charitable donations and pay plenty of fines-- including $80,900 to his California neighbors for egging their house in 2014. Bieber has since been vocal about getting his act together in 2015.

Quite a few Americans were unhappy at the way young Bieber was deporting himself on U.S. soil. So they signed a petition to get him…well…deported. The petition lives on the White House website. However, the Obama Administration said “no comment” on this one, and no action has been taken.

August 28, 2015

That’s the debut of Bieber’s latest song What Do You Mean. His new album will release on November 13. It will be his first album in three years.

66.8 million

Despite his ups and downs, Bieber’s core fans “Beliebers” remain loyal. Almost 67 million people follow him on Twitter.
